We build headless ecommerce on Medusa.js, an open-source backend, with a storefront in Next.js. You get a flexible commerce platform that you own and can extend without another replatforming. We have run online stores ourselves, so we check each architecture decision against the P&L.
Where things usually go wrong.
Off-the-shelf SaaS gets expensive to run and is hard to adapt to your own processes. A custom monolith, often an older Magento build, slows down at peak and holds back the roadmap. In both cases the cost per order grows faster than revenue, and the team starts looking for something more future-proof.
How we work.
Medusa.js is the open backend and the Next.js storefront runs at the edge. Customer data and store events are connected directly rather than through improvised tracking tags. We design the data model for day-to-day operations, and we track monitoring, unit costs and the migration path from the first day.

[ 01 ]Why Medusa.js rather than Shopify Plus?
Shopify Plus works well until you need custom logic or your own B2B pricing model, or you would rather not pay fees on revenue. Medusa.js gives you an open-source backend and code you own. We do sometimes recommend staying on Shopify.
[ 02 ]How long does it take?
Moving a DTC brand with under €2.5M revenue to Medusa.js and Next.js usually takes 8–16 weeks of build after the audit. B2B projects with an ERP integration take longer. We give a firm timeline once the audit is done.
[ 03 ]Do you stay after launch?
Yes. By default we stay for 6 months of operations after the build, or continue as interim Head of E-commerce. Launch is where the ongoing work starts.
[ 04 ]Is this only for new builds?
No. We often take over existing stores, including Magento and Shopify Plus setups, and move them to headless in phases while keeping URLs and SEO intact. The first question is what has to stay stable during the move.
